The waistcoats

Tamarind Tree Originals are excited to announce the arrival from India of our very new bespoke design eco fashion item. Made from off-cuts and waste cotton fabrics, sewn together in a colourful and original style with detailed over-stitching, our waistcoats are a brilliant fashion item. Each waistcoat is lined and has back ties to customise size. No two waistcoats are the same, each one decorated in its own individual style with recycled items such as vintage keys and brooches, watches, buttons and other unique decorative items including small elephant bells.

These funky original garments are created in Rajasthan, where, with the help of our colleagues in Udaipur, the seed of the idea has germinated into the burst of colour and style that are waistcoats. The detailed stitching and beautiful craftwork is executed in local traditional style by a womens co-operative in the town.

On a visit to Rajasthan in January 2008, Angela and Sue sourced some of the unique decorative items, such as the small elephant bells, fabric birds and wooden beads.

Back in the UK we have sought out some of the recycled vintage decorative pieces that are unique in themselves. The application of these items renders each waistcoat completely individual and is carried out by the UK womens co-operative (Angela and Sue). The waistcoats currently come in three sizes, small, medium and large. We have in place a design for extra large and these can be acquired upon request.
